Heroes & Villains
🎒 What you need:
Characters make or break a story!
You can have the most exciting plot in the world, but if the characters are boring, no one will care. The secret to unforgettable characters is this: they must feel REAL — with real desires, real fears, and real flaws.
What Makes a Hero Interesting
A great hero is NOT perfect. Perfect characters are boring! A great hero should have:
- 💪 A strength they are proud of
- 😟 A weakness or flaw they struggle with
- 🎯 A goal — something they desperately want
- 😨 A fear — something they are terrified of
- 💔 A wound — a past hurt that shapes how they see the world
Great Villains Believe They Are Right
The scariest villains are not evil for the sake of being evil — they have a reason. They want something, and they believe their way is justified. A villain who thinks they are the hero of their own story is ten times more interesting than a villain who is just "bad".
✏️ Activity: Character Creator
Create your own hero by answering these questions:
- Name:
- Age:
- What do they want more than anything? (their goal)
- What is their biggest strength?
- What is their biggest flaw or weakness?
- What happened in their past that shaped them?
- What do they fear most?
- What makes them laugh?
Character Design Tip
Your character's appearance should tell us about who they are! A shy character might have hunched shoulders and downcast eyes. A confident bully might stand with their chest out and a wide smile. Let the body language say what words don't need to!
Draw Your Character!
Use the Drawing Canvas to bring your character to life. Use the shape-first method you learned in Art Fundamentals to sketch them out!
