What executive functioning means
Executive functioning is a group of brain skills: planning, organizing, starting tasks, remembering steps, managing time, and shifting between activities. These skills develop gradually in all kids — and often a bit more slowly for ADHD kids.
Why creative tasks help
Short, motivating creative projects let kids practice executive skills in low-pressure ways: gather materials, follow a few steps, finish, and reflect — all wrapped in something fun.
Supporting, not shaming
Hard moments are not character flaws. Calm tone, visual reminders, and shared problem-solving build trust and stronger skills over time.
Gentle ideas to try
- Use simple picture checklists for multi-step activities.
- Break big projects into 2–3 tiny steps.
- Pair a hard task with a fun one to lower the start-up barrier.
