Step-by-Step Instructions 📝
Set up your messy zone
Cover your table with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth. Put on an old shirt you don't mind getting painty. Squeeze blobs of different paint colors onto paper plates — keep each color separate so they stay bright and vivid!
Tip: Put the paper on a cookie sheet or tray to catch drips and make cleanup super easy.
Make handprint flowers
Dip your whole hand in your favorite color and press it firmly onto the paper. Repeat with different colors, arranging the prints in a circle with fingers pointing outward — like flower petals! Add a green fingerprint stem below each flower.
Tip: Press down on each finger individually to make sure the whole print shows up clearly.
Create fingerprint animals
Use your fingertips to create tiny prints. Two prints together make a caterpillar body — add legs and antennae with a thin finger line. A thumbprint becomes a ladybug body — add dots and legs. Your whole fist makes a great turtle shell!
Tip: Use the side of your pinky finger for thin lines and your thumb for big, bold dots.
Paint a handprint tree
Press your forearm and hand flat to make a tree trunk and branches. Use your fingertips dipped in green, yellow, and orange to dab leaves all around the "branches." Add red apple dots and a brown base. A whole forest from just your hands!
Tip: Try overlapping different green shades for the leaves — it looks more like a real tree.
Go abstract and free
Now it's free time! Swirl, smear, drag, and dot paint everywhere. Mix colors by smooshing them together on the paper. Try dragging all five fingers through a blob of paint to create rainbow streaks. There's no wrong way to do this!
Tip: Sprinkle a tiny bit of glitter onto wet paint for extra sparkle and magic!
